One Direction member Zayn Malik has not only cut down on his Twitter posts, but decided to deactivate his account all together—but not before giving his fans an explanation. One Direction gay romance? Not so fast! Before pulling the plug on his account, Malik wrote, "The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account , x" Zayn isn't the first from the One Direction family to ditch Twitter—well, kinda. Harry Styles' rumored girlfriend Emma Ostilly said goodbye to the Twittersphere in April after being on the receiving end of some fan backlash and hate tweets. The Closing Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics included a dose of pop sugar fun in the form of the young gents from One Direction. The band floated in (really, they were on a float) to croon their way through the hit single "What Makes You Beautiful." It's a big co-sign for the popular band, as it was featured among the likes of Madness, the Pet Shop Boys, West End Girls and Ray Davies of the Kinks. Here they (Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson) are! 1D's appearance was previously teased in various news reports but was never officially confirmed. Their addition to the line-up placed them alongside fellow teenybopper favorites Jessie J and Ed Sheeran. British rapper Tinie Tempah was also rumored to be a part of the proceedings. The festivities featured a street party, a portly man in a Batman suit, Madness (the band!) and a host of other quirky, ostensibly British moments. At one point, a man wearing a kilt was flying while playing the saxophone. The return of the Spice Girls was widely expected to be the highlight of the evening.

I sadly missed there perfomance, but will see replay later on tonight :).

While we were aware that Justin Bieber fans and One Direction fans generally are at war over the two teen pop acts, this latest news just might add even MORE fuel to the fire! We recently reported that the Biebs is set to perform six dates in England this upcoming February and March and it seems there’s a HIGHER demand for his tickets than there was for One Direction's tour! We’re talking the Biebs’ ticket demand is FIVE times greater that 1D’s! And that’s THEIR homeland (we know, we know…except for Niall)! Cray cray, indeed! Edward Parkinson, spokesperson for website viagogo stated: "One Direction will soon be returning home after charming America, but our data shows that Bieber is currently more popular than the whole band put together. They'll have to pull out all the stops to compete with Bieber Fever which looks set to reach boiling point in the UK!" Uh oh! Those are some fightin’ words right there! Tickets for Justin’s UK dates aren’t set to go on sale until tomorrow, though there’s been a 216% increase in ticket searches online! Guess the Biebs really IS "on the hottest ticket now!"

One Direction‘s follow-up to their hit debut album Up All Night is coming sooner than you can swoon over the mere sight of the British boy band. The group has snatched up their fellow Brit Ed Sheeran and his teenage-written tunes for a few songs off their next release, which may be completed by summer’s end. ”We’ve been recording already, actually,”1D member Niall Horan told MTV in a recent phone interview. ”When we came back from Australia, we had a couple weeks off and then we went straight into the studio to get cracking on the next album.” “We wrote an absolutely cracking song that we’re all kind of very excited about,” the 18-year-old singer said. “And then last week we were in LA and we had five days off the tour to record in LA so we recorded more there.” He adds that the band is spending all of July and August “getting the album done.” The lead single for the new album is expected to be released around September. And no, as we broke it to you earlier this week, it won’t be the rumored track called “Heartbreaker.” “I read that on Twitter,” Niall told MTV. “It’s not true at all. We actually don’t even have a song called ‘Heartbreaker.’ That’s not gonna happen.” Are you excited for a new album from One Direction? One Direction has made their first political or charity based decision as a band yet! They joined Greenpeace to ask the United Nations to make the Arctic Seabed the newest sanctuary. This would ban all oil drilling and certain types of fishing for endangered species against the law. They certainly are not the only stars to have joined the petition, but as a whole the band has avoided such issues before. This could mark as a new turn in their careers as they enter a more adult phase of their careers.

I think it was a honorable thing for the band to do, even if it doesn’t end the way they want it too. They have made a huge move that might cost some fans, but at the same time allows them to take stand for what they believe in. I personally wonder what move they will make next, if they chose to stay on this current track. I doubt their names on the list will help the cause much, but I think a lot of fans will join in and that could be what is needed to make the U.N. agree to do it. How do you like them supporting causes like this one? Will you join it next since you know your favorite band is for it? I personally think that people should join causes that they actually believe in. So before signing up, you should read about before you make a commitment. I am sure that One Direction is aware of what they agreed to, so you should follow their steps. I mean, they have the right idea but they should stress that individuals need to support what they themselves believe in for themselves, then I can fully support what they are doing with the Greenpeace project.

According to Justin Bieber, the One Direction guys, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson want to collaborate with Katy Perry! Considering that both Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are big fans of Katy, this news isn't very shocking. The two One Direction guys recently went to see Perry's new film on her musical career and tweeted out how inspiring a musician they think she is. Although there aren't any solid plans being made to collaborate with Katy Perry at this time, the 1D guys will definitely be collaborating with Justin Bieber on their next album, which they've already begun recording. The Bieber collaboration has many Directioners upset. There are other artists who the One Direction guys wish to collaborate with as well. Justin Bieber said, "I asked them who else they would like to work with. They were, like, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez."

Simon Cowell is countersuing the US band One Direction for rights to the use of the band name in America. In April One Direction US sued the record mogul for $1 million in damages and demanded an immediate injunction to the use of the name, claiming that One Direction UK's foray stateside has resulted in confusion amongst fans. The band cited in particular a segment on NBC's Today where music from the US group was shown over footage of the British teen-pop band. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Cowell's label Syco and Sony Music Entertainment have launched counterclaims that argue that the US band have "devised and perpetrated a scheme to exploit the goodwill" of their UK counterparts, and that the Brits are the real ones who are in genuine threat of missing out on revenue due to confusion. In the original lawsuit, One Direction US pointed to the release of their album The Light on iTunes in February 2011, more than a year before One Direction UK launched their debut Up All Night in the US. Syco and Sony Music Entertainment's counter-argument is that YouTube videos of the UK band's appearances on The X Factor UK had been circulating worldwide as early as September 2010. The US band have been the subject of hate mail and death threats since the announcement of the lawsuit. However, the band insist that they will "not be pushed around" by Cowell and his label. The UK band have so far proved a huge success Stateside, becoming the first UK group in history to top the Billboard 200 chart with their debut album. Liam Payne wishes he had Louis Tomlinson’s humor, while Louis wishes Zayn Malik’s hair. Zayn wants Liam’s six-pack abs, all awhile Niall Horan wants to be able to “riff” like Zayne. Harry Styles wished he had Niall’s Irish accent! Poor Harry seems to be left in the dark, even those he has fans who adore him just as much as they adore Niall and the band as a whole. Or maybe they all already know just how amazing Harry is and that they could never have his great personality.

I feel bad for Harry, but I am happy for Zayn. I didn’t think Zayn would be a favorite among his members, but he is and that had to make him feel good. Most of us likely thought that Harry or Niall would be the winners thanks to their popularity, but nope they are not the winners. Zayn is and that has to be a great surprise for him, even if he does not allow it to go to his head. I mean, wouldn’t you feel good about yourself if you learned that people were jealous of you? I think most would and I doubt he is immune to it. As for the rest of the guys, some of them have real silly things to be jealous of. How do you feel about their reasons? Or what about the their honesty? I approve of their honesty over it, but they do need to realize that they are great all by themselves. Nobody thinks of them as people who lack anything. Girls swoon over their voices, looks and singing. What traits are not for them to love about themselves??They certainly are not lacking anything in the department of desire. Maybe they just need to open their eyes a little more to see how they drive.

AS a young boy Harry Styles never cried much. But the tears gushed from the One Direction heart-throb on the day his dad announced he was walking out on his ­family. Harry, now 18, was just seven when his dad sat him down and told him he was leaving home. He has since overcome the childhood trauma to join the world’s hottest boyband. But dad Des says the sight of his son in tears haunts him still – and reveals the moment he broke the news to Harry was the worst day of his life. Des, 54, opens up on his relationship with chart-topping son Harry and gives a ­fascinating insight into the life of the former X Factor idol. He tells how he’s tried to give him advice on sleeping with girls and reveals he thought the 15-year age gap between Harry and one-time girlfriend Caroline Flack was “extreme”. But, movingly, he tells of his agony when he could no longer see Harry and his sister Gemma, now 21, after he split from their mum Anne. Des said: “He was only about seven when I sat them down and told them I was leaving. Everybody was in tears. “We were sitting in the lounge. Gemma and Harry were sitting on the floor in front of us, Anne and I on the sofa, and both of them were crying. “Generally, you wouldn’t see him cry as much as maybe some kids do – he wasn’t ­generally emotional or a cry baby – but he cried then.” “The way we sat them down and told them we weren’t going to be together any more, it was probably the worst day of my life.” Des says he and Anne tried to reassure their distraught son by telling him he wouldn’t be leaving ­immediately. The family struggled on for another two years before Des eventually walked out. He said: “I didn’t just leave, it was a decision we should split. Things weren’t good for a while and it was the best way forward. “At the time, everybody was in tears but children are very resilient.” When he finally walked out for good, he said it was heartbreaking, “Of course, I missed him and Gemma, as you would unless you were some sort of monster,” he said. “It was tough. I used to feed him every night at half 10, change his nappy, put him to bed when he was a baby and then I was no longer living with them.” Sales and marketing director Des confessed he’s never spoken to Harry about how the break-up affected him. “I’ve always tried to approach it from the other way, to say, ‘Is everything all right Harry, is your mum all right, are you ok?’ “I used to see Harry and his sister Gemma every couple of weeks, I’ve always supported them financially and when I can emotionally. “I’m not an estranged dad. It was a tough time to leave them but these things happen.” Harry’s mum remarried and moved with her new husband into a pub, which Des says he didn’t approve of – but he’s full of support for her new man Robin. And he says he couldn’t be prouder of Harry, who put the marriage split behind him to forge his pop career. Des said: “He’s polite and well mannered, he’s trained up properly, but it wasn’t me, of course not, it would be Anne. “But in his younger years, it was me. I say show me the lad at seven and I’ll show you the man, so I was there then. “I’m just so proud of Harry. Three years ago, he was working in the bakery in the local ­village and now he’s something like 86th on twitter in the world.” Harry hit the big time after he auditioned for The X Factor in 2010. He failed to make it through to the boys’ category but guest judge Nicole Scherzinger suggested he join up with fellow hopefuls Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan to form a boy band. One Direction came third and the following year released their debut album Up All Night – the fastest selling debut in UK chart history and the first British act to have their debut album go straight to No1 in the US. Des says he’s been overwhelmed by the band’s success but has been able to sample some of the hysteria in America. He added: “I went to New York in April to watch them on the Morning Show on NBC, with 15,000 fans on Rockefeller Plaza all screaming their heads off, and I spent a few days with the lads in their van going round experiencing what they were experiencing and it was­ ­awesome. “The fact that they all get on so well together and are bouncing off each other all the time, you can imagine, it must be like cracking it as a footballer.” Des reveals he’s tried to warn Harry about the dangers of getting into trouble with girls who now throw themselves at him. He said: “I never needed to sit him down and tell him about the birds and the bees. I tried to train him up as we went along. “We had those conversations and it was almost as though he’d say, ‘Yeah, dad, I’m on board with that’, rather than going all sicky and saying, ‘Oh dad don’t talk about things like that’, you know the way some kids do. “I said to Harry, just make sure you don’t get anyone pregnant because if that were to ­happen, it would really screw things up big time. “If he then makes a mistake, so be it. There’s nothing I can do to stop him doing anything. He’s away in a different country and completely different world. “From a One Direction aspect, it wouldn’t be great. It would drive a truck through that. “I don’t think it would bother him too much if he did get a girl pregnant. He would be a responsible parent and get on with it, which seems a bit bizarre, doesn’t it? But I honestly think that’s the way he’d be.” Harry caused controversy last October when, aged 17, he started dating TV presenter Caroline Flack, who, at 32, was 15 years older than him. They split three months later and Des admits that even though he secretly admired his son’s pulling power, he felt the age gap was too big. Des said: “With Caroline Flack, you can imagine, dads and sons, it’s like, ‘Fair play, son.’ But it was a bit ridiculous, 32 or whatever she was and 17. It’s a bit extreme really.” But Des says he isn’t surprised Harry is ­getting a lot of attention from the opposite sex, because he’s always been a heart-throb. He added: “We went on holiday once to Cyprus when he was nine and as we left there was a whole melee of teenage girls, 16, 17-year-olds gathered by the side of the bus saying, ‘bye Harry, we love you’. How did he do that? “He’s just got this fantastic personable demeanour to him. Clearly he’s a bit special. “It’s not just his looks but he’s very charming, it’s like a gift really. I always knew he’d succeed at whatever he did because he’d always charm people, from performing in the car or on ­holiday he’d always be able to hold a crowd or hold a room even when he was a kid. “His sister has always been academically brilliant and when he was about 14 he would say, ‘I’ll never live up to Gemma’, but the tables are turned now through what’s happened to Harry.” Despite Harry’s success, Des doesn’t think he’ll turn into a ladykiller. “He’s not one to run three girls at once. He’s a one girl person when he’s with somebody. There was a short period of time when he had several different girlfriends one after the other and I said, ‘Look don’t get a reputation because there’ll come a point where the girls will catch on to that’. “He took it on board but whether he tries to live by that mantra I’ve no idea. “As far as I know, Harry doesn’t have a girlfriend at the moment. They’re very rarely in the same place for him to be able to do that. “He should ride the wave. Anybody would be mad to turn down what they’re doing but it doesn’t look very good from a girlfriend or prospective partner’s point of view, does it? “I’ve been married three times so I wouldn’t say anyone should take a leaf out of my book.” Although Des and Harry have ­maintained a bond, Des says now his son is so famous, he has to keep track of him on Twitter. “The downside for me is I hardly see him. But on Father’s day Harry sent me texts saying ‘Love you more than all the world, kiss kiss kiss,’ from LA and Gemma bought me a nice bottle of wine from her and Harry.” And he added: “I’m just very proud to be his dad but I don’t want to exploit that either, I just want to be here if he needs me.

Seemingly unstoppable British boy band One Direction have partnered with environmental group Greenpeace for their petition to the United Nations to make the Arctic Sea bed a sanctuary. Because of environmental and climactic changes, the Arctic has experienced a fluctuation of changes over the years and according to Greenpeace’s official site, oil companies and other conglomerates are using this to their advantage to divide up what is left for exploration. But Greenpeace is ready for this to stop.“We’re not going to sit by while greedy companies and selfish politicians destroy this beautiful, fragile environment," the group says. "That’s why we are demanding that the uninhabited area around the North Pole be protected by the UN and calling for a ban on offshore oil drilling and unsustainable fishing in the Arctic.” One Direction joins other celebs like Edward Norton, Emily Blunt, Woody Harrelson, Robert Redford, Sir Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson, Radiohead, Penelope Cruz, Hugh Grant, Lucy Lawless and Rita Ora, who have added their names to a list that they hope will reach a million signatures to help Greenpeace in their quest. The UK boy band, One Direction, is one of the top new boy bands out there, with their song "What Makes You Beautiful" topping the charts. However, their popularity wasn't enough to allow them to party it up during a recent stay in Las Vegas. The young singers were thrown out of the casinos. One Direction members-- Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik-may be able to drink and gamble back home in England and Ireland, but not in Sin City, as they're all under the legal age limit in America. Their ages range from 18 to 20. The boys were staying in Las Vegas while as they were performing shows there as part of their U.S. tour. In between shows, the boys were looking to get a wild experience like that in The Hangover and they were ready to party the night away. However casino security, who knew exactly who the young boys were, wasn't going to let that fly. A source told The Sun, "The boys were hoping to go wild in Vegas by boozing and gambling into the early hours. "But security at every casino in town knew who the lads were and threw them out because the legal drinking and gambling age in the US is 21. After being booted from the casinos, the boys thought that at least the hotel suite that they paid for would be the one used in the 2009 comedy, The Hangover. Yet again, they were disappointed. The Hangover was actually filmed in Los Angeles, The Sun reported. "Finding out the hotel suite they had ordered wasn't the one in The Hangover was also pretty annoying," a source told The Sun. However the One Direction boys still got to stay in some fancy accommodations. Perez Hilton reported that hotel management allowed them to stay in the $25,000-a-night Palms Hotel suite. Schlussel ripped on poor Zayn for tweeting about Ramadan to fans, then ranted, “The scary thing is that millions of girls in America and around the world are infatuated with the members of One Direction, including Malik. He knows the power he has over these mindless girls and is using that influence to preach the Islamic faith. It’s dangerous.” Uh, what? She also got made at Malik for sporting a keffiyeh, which is a short scarf, because she thinks it’s a symbol of Islam. Uh, even if it is, zillions of other people wear identical scarves. Are all hipsters Muslim, then? She continued, “With the boy band One Direction, it’s all about pimping Islam amid the deceptive visage of angelic, effeminate boys in a band. Yup, for them there is definitely One Direction: facing Mecca.” Obviously, Schlussel isn’t playing with a full deck, and Zayn has a ton of supporters in his corner. One of them, screenwriter Wajahat Ali told The Sun, “What we have seen in the last 10 years is that you can be an artist who is Muslim and can be practicing and doing art that is inspired by your beliefs, but does not have to be overtly Islamic or using religious language. One Direction are reportedly being lined up to perform at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics this summer. The 'Gotta Be You' singers have achieved huge success worldwide this year, and will allegedly perform their debut single 'What Makes You Beautiful' at the end ceremony on 12th August to celebrate the final day of London 2012.

"The main theme of the Olympics closing ceremony will be celebrating the best of British music, so it's only right that One Direction are opening the show," a source told the Daily Star this week. "They are the UK's biggest export at the moment, behind Adele, who is also rumoured to be involved in some way." "It's all top secret and the boys aren't allowed to talk about it, but they are thrilled," the source added. "One direction are unstoppable at the moment. To perform in their home country's Olympic ceremony is like winning their very own gold medal." The closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics will be streamed live around the world and is expected to be watched by around one billion people.

One Direction's Zayn Malik left behind his fellow band members in LA yesterday (June 18) as he jetted back to the UK, where no doubt he'll be reunited with girlfriend Perrie Edwards. The 'Gotta Be You' singer was pictured arriving at LAX airport ahead of returning to London. Zayn dressed casually for his departure, wearing a denim jacket, faded pink t-shirt, black jeans and red, grey and white trainers. The trip will only be brief as One Direction are due to perform their next show this Saturday (23rd June) at in Dallas, Texas. It's clear that the One Direction has been missing his Little Mix girlfriend since he's been on the road touring the US. After keeping tight-lipped over the rumoured romance the Little Mix star was forced to confirm the relationship following a photo of the pair locking lips last month.
